My Memories of Uncle Paul

Created by Yee Ning 2 years ago
When I was a kid, I remember Uncle Paul used to visit Hong Kong every few years. I loved him visiting us as he would bring us treats and he would take us out while mom and dad were at work during his stay.

Summertime in Hong Kong could get very hot and humid. As a result, Uncle Paul used to walk around our flat topless. Unlike most Asians, Uncle Paul had a lot of body hair! When he was walking around topless, my sister Helen and I used to called him Uncle Ape (猩猩舅父). It wasn't very nice of us to call him 猩猩舅父; however, Uncle Paul was so kind that he never got mad at us.

There was one day during his stay, I was acting very rude to my mom. Uncle Paul saw what was happening. He gave me a lesson, spanked on me, and told me I could not treat mom like that. As a kid, I cried uncontrollably. The next day, Uncle Paul came home with a huge stuffed animal and told me that I needed to be a good girl.

I wish I could have spent more time with you Uncle Paul! I feel very fortunate that you and your siblings attended my wedding. That was the best wedding gift that I could have received. I will always remember your sense of humor, positive attitude, and smile. I will be sure to visit Yellowstone National Park for you so that I can capture all of the beautiful scenery for you.  I will miss you!
